Oh, HI!

Welcome!  This blog is dedicated to all things delicious.  Here I will take you into my kitchen and show you how to whip up simple nutritious dishes.  We will also make some more complex meals when the time is right.  Aside from food (I know… there’s more to life than food?) we will discuss trending and informative nutrition topics and hopefully squeeze in a little travel as well!

How nutrition and cooking has affected my life:

My interest in nutrition was sparked by both sports and family.  I have spent most of my life swimming competitively and recreationally.  Over the years I  fluctuated in energy and strength and found the only thing that gave me stability was a healthy diet.  I was fortunate to have parents who prepared every meal growing up, including a brown bag lunch for school every day. This was a blessing, especially when my eldest brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.  My parents passed their cooking knowledge on to him and, with that power, he has been able to tightly control his disease.  I know few people as determined at maintaining a healthy lifestyle and not letting diabetes rule their life.  To this day he runs marathons and can kick my butt both on land and in the pool (well, maybe not in the pool!).  Growing up with a food-loving, health conscious, family has inspired me to become a chef, helped me make informed decisions about the food I eat, allowed me to discover foods’ role in disease control, and motivated me to help others with their own nutrition issues.

Here’s a little bit about my cooking philosophy:

A main part of my diet consists of vegetables, with the occasional meat and fish thrown in for good measure, so expect to see many plant based dishes on this site.  On that note, I think you’ll find that vegetable dishes are very flexible and will allow room for any meat, fish, or poultry of your choice.  For the most part, I cook with local and sustainable ingredients, especially during the spring and summer months when farmer’s markets are overflowing with vibrant ingredients.  There is nothing like a peach in the summer to make you remember how truly delicious peaches are… or tomatoes… or… you get the point.  As a side note, whenever accessible and affordable, I stick to organic produce and, more specifically, organic dairy and meat products.  Each recipe is as much for you as it is for me, so if you would like to add a pinch more of this, a pat less of that, or you would like to swap something out, then by all means, go for it.  I only ask that you let me know how it turns out!

I look forward to your comments and suggestions and hope this blog sparks a little fire inside.
